Role of mechanical stress in mandible bone metabolism
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mechanical stress is an important factor in the regulation of bone metabolism. In addition, osteoblasts play a crucial role in bone metabolism. Osteoblasts produce bone matrix and osteotropic cytokines such as receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG). It was recently reported that mechanical stress loading affects the regulation of inflammatory cytokine, RANKL, and OPG expression by osteoblasts. The changes of the expression of these cytokines are thought to play a role in bone remodeling. The mandible is continuously exposed to mechanical stressors such as occlusal force. However, the mechanism by which occlusal force affects the mandible has not yet been determined at the molecular level. This article reviews the rapid progress made in the past few years to understand the role of mechanical stress in mandible bone metabolism. Rec.12/28/2011, Acc.2/23/2012, pp119-123

متن کاملThe Role of Lingual Bone Grafting in the Treatment of Displaced Edentulous Mandibular Fracture with Severe Atrophy
Introduction: Treatment of edentulous atrophic mandible with severe atrophy is a challenge based on local conditions and systemic diseases confronted by the age group affected. If bone grafting is indicated, it is often used in lateral or inferior aspects of the mandible. Case Report: A 70-year-old male with a unilateral fracture of the atrophied left mandibular body was managed by lingual bon...
متن کاملFree body analysis, beam mechanics, and finite element modeling of the mandible of Alligator mississippiensis.
The mechanical behavior of mammalian mandibles is well-studied, but a comprehensive biomechanical analysis (incorporating detailed muscle architecture, accurate material properties, and three-dimensional mechanical behavior) of an extant archosaur mandible has never been carried out. This makes it unclear how closely models of extant and extinct archosaur mandibles reflect reality and prevents ...
متن کاملThree-Dimensional Finite Elemental Analysis of Bone Stress near an Implant Placed at the Border between Mandible and Fibular Graft in Mandibular Reconstruction
Purpose: The aim of the present study was to use finite elemental analysis (FEA) to evaluate bone stress near an implant placed at the border between the mandible and fibular graft in mandibular reconstruction. Materials and Methods: A fibular model (FM) and transplantation model (TM) were constructed for FEA. In TM, mandible was on the mesial side and the fibular graft was on the distal side. ...

Background and Aims: The All-on-4 design with its significant advantages is an appropriate model in reconstruction of edentulous mandible. Evaluation of stress and strain distribution in this model is necessary for better judgment. The purpose of this FEA study was to measure stress and strain distribution on peri-implant bone in All-on-4 design in edentulous mandible. Materials and Methods: Th...
